The Weather Widget Says It’s Cloudy, But My Eyes Say Different
I have on my version of Ubuntu an excellent little application that loads current weather information and depending on the zip code, a forecast for where I live. It sits on my tool bar and updates something like every 10 minutes so I have a semi-running play-by-play on the current weather and temperature. What makes me nuts is when it’s wrong. Right now, it’s claiming to be 52 degrees Fahrenheit and overcast. For all I know the 52 degrees is accurate, because I don’t have a thermometer outside a window at my disposal. If I had one, I wouldn’t need the weather widget. However, I can look out the window right now, and see the sun rising. Um, if you can see the sun, it’s not overcast. At best, it’s hazy or partly cloudy, both of which have different pictures on the widget than overcast, which is the one it says right now. The application gets its information from weather stations in the various areas. For towns without a weather station, you pick a town that has one that’s close to you. But I live in a town with a weather station, but I can only assume it gets its information from doppler radar, which is apparently less accurate than having someone look out the window to determine the current weather conditions.
It’s doing it again! Stupid app.
And again, and again… WTH?
